Best Pizza Places by Scoop OTP

Best Pizza Places by Scoop OTP

Aug 16, 2015

Scoop OTP‘s contributor Joe Duffy ranks the top pizza places outside the perimeter of Atlanta. No cuisine or food item is more demonstrative of the skyrocketing quality of suburban dining options than pizza. It was not long ago that Del Pizzo’s in Suwanee was a godsend, a rare northern quality purveyor of pizza ensconced amongst LittleDominosPapaHuts galore. Here is to not longing for the bad ole days of the pizza chain of fools. The sobering scoop is that OTP is still burdened by a paucity of praiseworthy deep-dish alternatives since Roswell Tap transitioned from being restaurant-oriented to a watering hole for the middle-aged mini-van mafia. Victim of the transformation, the Saturday-only upper crust deep-dish pizza was sliced (so to speak) from the menu. A few Brazilian pizza curators have also come and gone. Sumptuous foodie recompense has been the light-speed proliferation of Neapolitan pizza transmigration, mirroring the precedence set by New York style vendors. Risking being accused of cheesy puns, our crusty food critic is sure to provoke saucy debate with this mushrooming list of elite OTP pizzerias. Pizza OTP 11) Bobby G’s Chicago Eatery (Milton) A common myth is that Chicago-style pizza is synonymous with deep dish. Bobby G’s destroys that urban legend with righteous Chicago thin crust pizza. Admittedly, Bobby G’s edges out several other “best of” candidates because Chicago pizza is such a scarce commodity OTP. Despite their failed business model of franchising, this now one and only whereabouts does the Windy City justice. 10) Double Zero Napoletana (Atlanta) Just a notch outside the perimeter, named after the signature flour required for authentic wood-fire pizza, they were among the first to transport the style north of Georgia Tech. 9) LaBella’s Pizzeria (Marietta) Trusted sources tell us they have become “hit-or-miss.” Perhaps not coincidently, they were put on my radar screen at least 15 years ago by a New York bred pastry chef. La Bella’s superior dough is the tipping point ensuring their inclusion. 8) Alpine Bakery & Trattoria (Alpharetta) Dispensing pizza was the second of three well-orchestrated phases: bakery, pizzeria, and trattoria. Our affection for their pizza traces back to when they offered takeout only one block from their current address. Yes,...

Theo’s Brothers Bakery: Fresh & Tasty

Theo’s Brothers Bakery: Fresh & Tasty

Sep 19, 2014

By Suzanne Taylor – Co-creator of Scoop OTP We finally made it to Theo’s Brother’s Bakery, which is owned by the Segwick Restaurant Group — a company that has many great dining options OTP. This fast-casual restaurant has a diverse selection of salads and sandwiches, and don’t even get me started on their baked goods variety! We went to the West Cobb location in the Avenues next to Aspens Signature Steaks. I know many of you who have lived OTP for a long time have probably been to either their Alpharetta location near the Silos or the West Cobb/Marietta location. I am embarrassed that it has taken us two years to Scoop this restaurant, but we are glad we finally did, and we can’t wait to return. The concept of fresh fast food at a casual restaurant is perfect for people on the go. You can grab something light or something more filling. I was really surprised by the selection and opted for their fresh tuna salad with their Aspen Chopped salad. The portion size was large and satisfying. My whole group enjoyed the cream of chicken soup, where (again) the portion was larger than expected. The French Dip was delicious and easy to share, and we all had to nibble at a few of the delicious baked goods, too. (I think it’s in the Scoop oath to try the sweets at every restaurant!) Even the day-old bread looked enticing! If they had wifi, I might have stayed all day sampling their Asiago bread and eating more desserts! For a complete menu, click here. Scoop Note: They have menu options that follow Maximized Living standards with both a core and an advanced plan. I wasn’t aware of this concept until I saw it on Theo’s menu, but you can read more here about maximizing quality nutrition. Located at 3265 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta at the Avenues West Cobb OR 12280 Houze Road #6, Alpharetta (a more limited menu here, but this is where they bake the bread!) For 99% of the restaurants or places we have ‘Scoop Approved,’ we secretly scoop them and are given no extra special treatment. We also pay for our meal!...

Le Bistro at Roswell Provisions

Le Bistro at Roswell Provisions

Aug 1, 2014

By Michelle Weitzel Knapp  from Scoop OTP   Scoop OTP has been a fan of  Roswell Provisions  and Provisions for Home since we discovered them. Wine, cheese, French décor — what’s not to love? But since we don’t live in Roswell and only get there every couple of months, we had no idea that Kelly Kakes, the cupcake-laden eatery just upstairs from Roswell Provisions, had converted to Le Bistro. We were so excited to find another lunch spot in Roswell! The décor has gone from Kelly Kakes’ pink and black motif to what we adore at the French-style Provisions: lots of burlap, distressed wood and vintage photographs. Lots to look at — which I always love. Le Bistro offers many yummy French options including quiches, Croque Monsieur, salads with poached pears and goat cheese, and traditional Parisien Jambon sandwiches. I ordered the quiche, because as luck would have it, every time I try to order quiche somewhere, they are out. So this was my lucky day! Now, when I think French bistro, I tend to think of a feminine, girly meal. Our meals were served to us on heavy, Lodge Cast Iron Skillets. I took note of this to use as leverage when trying to convince my husband to come back to Le Bistro with me! The food was very good. The server was friendly and the menu was moderately priced. We will definitely go back, hopefully sometime in the evening so that we can enjoy a cocktail and maybe even a seat on the balcony and pretend we are in the City of Lights. Try it yourself! And tell them Scoop sent you. Extra Scoop: Provisions for Home is now located in the back of the restaurant! So once you order, you can stroll through the store and chat with owners Cyril and Kelly or one of their friendly...

Taco Bell Breakfast

Taco Bell Breakfast

Mar 28, 2014

The waffle cannot be soggy or microwaved. Keep it fresh and crispy. The bacon needs to be real bacon. Baco-Bits taste awful on salad. On a waffle they are worse. Do not melt the cheese. Sprinkle it fresh and cold on the hot eggs and let it meld naturally. Maybe you could add some guacamole or jalapeños as extra toppings? Eggs were fine. Hash Brown was too thin and lacking anything that resemble a potato and should be completely fixed or axed. Tropicana Orange Juice is fabulous as always and I appreciated the capped bottle. Make sure that your staff is ready to add hot sauce to every order in lieu of Syrup.

Aug 22, 2013

Andrews Entertainment District is set to add Stillhouse to its impressive hospitality destination at 56 East Andrews Drive in Buckhead on Friday, August 30th. Using all of the moonshines available in Georgia, Stillhouse derives its name from its in-house cocktail program where moonshine is employed as the base ingredient to create classic cocktails. The carefully crafted cocktail menu is complemented by the ultimate burger experience with locally sourced ingredients and inspired toppings. Stillhouse offers a modern twist on burgers that set the standard and go to the extreme to taste the best. Applying regionally sourced products, baking cheeses onto buns and using house made condiments make the burgers stand out. Craft burgers selections include premium varieties of grass fed beef, mustard and Memphis pork, Coca-Cola teriyaki moonshine marinated chicken, seared turkey, fresh ground duck with house made confit, lump crab cakes, Apalachicola fried oysters and remarkable vegetarian options such as the Black eyed pea burger. Additional menu items include small plates, salads and shared sides consisting of deviled eggs, moonshine mussels, fried oysters, collard greens, spicy macaroni & cheese, fried green tomatoes, peanut butter hummus and more. Guests can dine inside, on the terrace or takeaway until late Monday through Saturday from 5pm until 1:30am. At Stillhouse, the moonshine cocktail program is served in a variety of ways to enjoy the distilled sensation. Using six charred oak barrels prominently featured on the back bar, the month aged spirits are second to none. Served straight or in a cocktail, the moonshine infusions combine regional ingredients such as Vidalia onions, Georgia peaches, watermelon, mint and more so flavors are balanced and shine. Guests may also choose to smoke their spirit or cocktail with fresh apple, cherry, pecan, and maple wood chips. Stimulating garnishes including local berries, freshly squeezed juices, bitters and house made syrups ensure smooth, flavorsome cocktails. Additional bar options include a small but carefully selected list that features beer staples and regional microbrews, top wine sellers and an American craft selection of liquors such as the award-winning Boyd & Blair Vodka. “We love the history and flavor of moonshine. It took finding the right balance of ingredients to get an approachable but complex cocktail that pleases the palate,”...
