I met Wesley Cook when he played with one of the acts I work with at Hard Rock Cafe, and was intrigued to see the full band of this talented, and quite nice and funny guy. When he told me that he would be playing Hard Rock again with his full band I just had to go out and see him, and I was not disappointed! Wesley brings a lot of energy to the stage with his catchy tunes that had everyone dancing. He reminds me so much of the Paul Simon sound when he sings some of his songs. It’s just amazing feel good music with great energy. Don’t confuse that statement though, Wesley has his own unique sound.
I had some pals meet me there from other bands and even some fans of
other artists I know in town, and they loved him. We all danced around and even got a little silly as you can see from the pics here. Being around Wesley is just a positive, fun time. I can see myself laying on a beach somewhere with his music going and some salt air cruising over me as his songs float into my head and the bands funky sound rolls along. This is exactly what his song “Sway” does for me. The one thing I love is the gypsy/funk influence in his music.
Wesley has been able to do some pretty awesome things from a town that is tough to break through, Athens, Ga. Wesley’s newest album was featured RadioPotato.com, as one of the “Top 5 Songs of May” as well as he and the band were featured live on Atlanta’s Fox 5 performing “Sway”. He was nominated for the “2006 Soloist of the Year” in the Athens Music Awards, and he has also been on MTV2 as an “Artist on the Rise”.
Wesley Cook has shared the stage with nationally recognized acts such as Zac Brown, Drivin’n’Cryin, Manchester Orchestra, Last Waltz Ensemble, High Tide Blues, Ben Deignan, the Bridge and even Shiny Toy Guns.
I think Wesley Cook will be a force to deal with very soon in Atlanta and beyond. I myself can’t wait to hit another show to dance the night away and giggle as he throws his sense of humor out to the crowd. You guys can actually join me on February 17th at Vinyl here in Atlanta to check out not only Wesley, but my friend Christopher Alan Yates and Patrick Scott. Christopher is an amazing and accomplished artist in his own right with some incredible skills on many instruments and an amazing singer. It’s bound to be one good time and take you to the beach. I hear the show is dubbed the “Valentines Lei”, which suits me just fine! catch more of Wesley Cook and listen to his awesome tunes here.
