Family Reunion??

Family Reunion??

Jul 5, 2011

A few months ago I was contacted by a family member about my thoughts on helping to coordinate a family reunion.  “It has been years since all the cousins have gotten together and they are spread all over the US”  they complained.  “I’m sure I don’t even know half of my relatives”. That seed of an idea morphed from the task of tracking down immediate family…into a project to attract every person we could find with our same surname.  Whether they are on the same family tree or not…if they share the same last name…they would be invited.  AND…we are going to have this reunion bash on a fabulous cruise ship in the Caribbean!! With this, the “Gragg Cousin Cruise” was born and in June 2012…we will have a Carnival Funship overflowing with Graggs.  In addition to the normal amenities found on cruise ships like gourmet dining; Las Vegas style entertainment; and exotic ports we are putting together unique features that will make the “Gragg Cousin Cruise” a special event surely to be talked about by the Gragg family for years! Special genealogy workshops will be held on “days at sea” where we’ll explore the Gragg name and attempt to connect those lost branches of the family tree.  We have a welcoming cocktail party planned; specially designed t-shirts; gift baskets in every cabin with specials just for the Gragg family; exclusive shore excursions; a group photo to preserve the memories of new-found friends and cousins; and a few surprises! Special rates were negotiated with the cruise line; a promotional website with secure cabin booking capability has been built; and a powerful “Get Paid to Cruise” program was initiated, making every Gragg a “Bounty Hunter” able to earn financial rewards for locating more Graggs. All this sounds like a tremendous amount of work…but truly its not.  You see…I am a Cruise Event Specialist with Dancing Moon Travel…and putting together special events at sea is what I do.  What we have put together for my family reunion is what Dancing Moon Travel does every day…we produce customized events at sea for any type of group from 50 people to 500.  Do you have a large following? ...

6 Cruise Tips

6 Cruise Tips

Jun 14, 2011

Six tips if you are planning on taking a cruise. No Money Needed (Wrong) – Though cruises are “all-inclusive” meaning your accommodations, dining and basic on-boat activities are included in the cost…there ain’t no such thing as a free ride.  Expect to pay for soda, alcoholic beverages, spa services, shore excursions, casino gambling and more. Some ships have onboard plastic debit cards that makes purchases easy.  It also leads to forgetting just how many Mai Tai’s you’ve had at the piano bar.  Sometimes it’s good to count the change. Cruise Buddies – Decide what kind of crowd you want to hang with before you book your cruise. Some cruise ships cater to families while others have an older demographic. During Spring Break season, it is possible to find ships offering specials for college students. If you have expectations about who will be joining you aboard the ship, advance research is a must. Get Off The Boat – If you want to take advantage of the planned shore excursions—such as snorkeling, bike tours or para-sailing—when your cruise ship docks in a port, decide what you want to do as soon as possible. Exercise Like A Drunken Sailor – Expect to get a healthy core workout in the fitness center because you’ll have to hold yourself on the equipment. The sway of the boat makes it difficult to run on a treadmill or use the elliptical machine. Don’t get too sidetracked watching TV or listening to music because you just might step off the equipment. That’s not to say you shouldn’t workout … Let’s EAT !! – I know…you’re on vacation.  But(t)…here’s a fact you probably didn’t want to know:  “The average person gains 7 to 14 pounds on a cruise”. That’s no surprise considered the rich food and enormous spread of desserts. But(t) you don’t want to feel bloated on the beach and have Captain Ahab chasing you with his harpoon. It’s okay to treat yourself to a little more than you would at home, but don’t forget to throw in a tossed salad and some fresh fruit every now and again. FREE Cruise

FREE Cruise

Apr 19, 2011

We’re all familiar with the famous old adage ‘there’s no such thing as a free lunch.’  Personal experience has taught most of us to beware offers that appear too good to be true.  That being the well-documented case, is it possible there really could be such a thing as a FREE CRUISE? The answer, surprisingly, is a slightly qualified yes —  and it actually could be easier to score this attractive travel bargain than you might think.  With no timeshare presentation.  No scams.  No $500 ‘administrative fees.’  No kidding! The secret to your potential free cruise actually lies in group travel.  The advantages of group travel don’t end with the potential for a FREE STATEROOM.   Group rates commonly offer savings off published fares.  Group members may also benefit from an array of special amenities.  Perks such as special onboard credit, wine and canapes in their staterooms, and free photos are frequently provided to group members.   Larger groups often qualify for special meet & greet cocktail parties and other special functions during their trip. Groups can (and do!) come from just about anywhere.  Most people reading this article are part of a  group of one sort or another.  Each of these could potentially comprise a group.  One of the most common groups consists simply of family members or friends who decide to travel together. Church groups, ballroom dancers, business clubs and associations, doll collectors, wine lovers, scrapbookers, Harley-Davidson owners — virtually ANY type of organizational affinity could form the basis for a cruise group. A group function at sea provides a high fun factor for attendees.  No stuffy, boring same-old/same-old here!   The family-friendly atmosphere makes a cruise the perfect venue to combine business & pleasure.  With most meetings & business functions generally held during the cruise ‘sea days,’ group members are free to enjoy exotic destinations, spending port time exploring with friends & family. Seamless first-class events — high fun factor — and a possible FREE CRUISE.  What could be more enticing? CRUISE FOR FREE … yes, it’s entirely possible that you really can.  Why not start putting together your list of potential group members and click on this special link for more info…I WANT TO CRUISE FOR FREE!!
